From the St. Gallen harbour and Rorschach cargo area through a lovely landscape with mild climate, versatile water sports and other leisure possibilities, to Romanshorn – with a long ferry connection to Friedrichshafen.
Description
The shores along the glistening Lake Constance waters, also known as Swabian Sea, and the third largest inland lake in Europe, have some very attractive promenades – with fish restaurants, playgrounds, bathing spots and parks lining the way.
In the Rorschach Kornhaus, built in 1749 and today home to a museum, schoolchildren can explore, discover and sense thanks to technical and visual experiments. Halfway along the lakeside stretch of this route is Arbon – and most schoolchildren will have heard of the Roman “Kastell Arbor Felix” (happy tree) – with remains around the castle still discovered today. Famous too are trucks and buses from the former Arbon Saurer company, which have made it all over the world.
Back in the countryside, fruit trees seen left and right of the route are only the forerunners of the extensive orchards that gave this region it’s “Mostindien” name – literally, fruit-juice India. Besides the cycling route, many means of transport lead to Rome (anshorn): the Intercity and regional Thurbo railways, Lake Constance public transport boats and the car ferry from Friedrichshafen.
