Swiss Transport Museum

Switzerland’s most visited museum showcases the past, present and future of mobility with interactive and varied exhibits. In addition to the museum, unique attractions found nowhere else in Switzerland, such as the film theatre, planetarium, Swiss Chocolate Adventure and Media World, are just waiting to be discovered.

The Swiss Transport Museum or Verkehrshaus der Schweiz in Lucerne opened in July 1959 and exhibits all forms of transport, including locomotive, automobiles, ships, and aircraft as well as communication technology. It is Switzerland’s most popular museum.

The Museum of Transport, opened in 1959, is Switzerland’s most popular museum and features numerous exhibitions, theme parks and simulations. The collection of more than 3,000 items is presented in more than 20,000m2 of exhibition space. With its exhibition areas of road transport, rail, navigation (water) and aviation, the Museum of Transport is one of the most extensive museums for mobility in Europe. The large outdoor area complete with lake and playing facilities make it an experience whatever the weather.

Alongside the museum, other unique attractions are waiting in store for visitors: documentaries are shown in XXL format in the film theatre on the biggest screen in Switzerland, Switzerland’s biggest and most state-of-the-art planetarium offers a 360-degree flight to the stars, while cutting-edge communication trends await in Media Word, such as virtual reality. A multimedia journey through the Swiss Chocolate Adventure shows how the cocoa bean is made into the famous Swiss chocolate.

Cinema: Switzerland’s largest cinema screen

Thrills and entertainment are the order of the day at the museum’s cinema! Audiences experience films and breathtaking documentaries in a new dimension, i.e. in the middle of the on-screen action.

Planetarium: in the realm of the stars

The planetarium takes you on a journey to the stars, distant planets and faraway galaxies. Its cutting-edge technology lets you experience virtual space walks. The 18-metre dome displays a stunning night sky, while commentators explain the wonders of astronomy.

Swiss Chocolate Adventure: from rainforest to pralines

The tour takes you on a chocolate adventure while virtual protagonists tell you about the discovery, provenance, manufacture and transport of chocolate. A multi-sensory voyage of discovery: seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling. And you receive a mini chocolate surprise at the end of the tour!
